The Community supports the Center for Urban Innovation as a hub to boost Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Cartagena (01/04/2015)

The Center will work on the design of energy efficiency projects in developing a business incubator project and designing a business accelerator

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation, the City of Cartagena, the Polytechnic University and the Chamber of Commerce of the port city have joined forces to create the Center for Urban Innovation, which is a strategic focus to drive Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Cartagena.

The Minister Juan Carlos Ruiz, Mayor Pilar Barreiro, the chancellor José Antonio Franco, and the President of the Chamber, Miguel Martinez, today signed a collaboration agreement to launch the center, as the Minister said, "is set to a laboratory of ideas and creation of innovative projects that encourage the creation of technology-based companies, for urban regeneration of the historic event and generating economic activity from the venture ".

The Center for Urban Innovation is the office where the projects materialize in the future Integrated Urban Development Strategy historic center of Cartagena, which is the strategy to be presented shortly to the ERDF initiative designed 'Sustainable Urban Development' to raise funds Europeans who help create the neighborhood of Entrepreneurs and the manager and coordinator of projects.

It will also manage a support service to encourage participation of teachers and students UPCT in these projects, since, according to Juan Carlos Ruiz said, "we want the knowledge centers play an active role."

In this space, located in the building Laboratory, Teaching and Research (ELDI) UPCT, will work on the design of energy efficiency projects for Neighborhood Entrepreneurs in developing a draft business incubator which also includes residences for entrepreneurs, and designing a business accelerator.

Furthermore, the agreement between the two administrations, the university and the cameral body has, moreover, as to promote a system of grants to staff the center.

So that initially will consist of four fellows selected from students with undergraduate degrees, Master's and Doctoral Degree UPCT and will address faculty of this University.

Decisive step for the Neighborhood Entrepreneurs

For Juan Carlos Ruiz "with the creation of the Center for Urban Innovation give a decisive step to realize the Neighborhood Entrepreneurs, and convert Cartagena, especially the Polytechnic University and its environment, generating a core of entrepreneurship, innovation, culture and tourism, which positions the city in a privileged place in the international context and to promote increased employment levels and diversification of the productive structure ".

Also, the Minister said that "we are betting on creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem, where conditions for the creation and development of new business projects will be provided, and creating a magnet for I + D + i, which promotes collaboration between companies, universities and research centers, and arouse initiatives of local and international technological base with ability to attract talent. "
