The second author of the Mandarache Prize, Julio Fajardo, overflows the UPCT Paraninfo in the presentation of his book (20/02/2018)

The cycle of meetings of the Mandarache Prize, an event organized by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena, reaches its Ecuador with the visit of the writer Julio Fajardo Herrero, whose second novel, 'Ordinary Assembly' (Libros del Asteroide, 2016), competes for the award in its thirteenth edition.

The author, whose program of activities will allow him to meet more than a thousand readers, began this Tuesday, February 20, with a meeting with more than six hundred high school students from different institutes of the municipality in the Auditorium of the UPCT.

The Councilor for Youth, David Martinez, thanked the welcome that this Mandarache / Hache 2018 Award is having for the students and for the organization of the promoter group and the coordinator of the Award, Alberto Soler.

The writer and professor of the IES Las Salinas del Mar Menor, Diego Sanchez, who has been in charge of presenting the writer as a member of the promoter group, has referred to the book as a "realistic novel" that they wanted all students to read and "A counterpoint" for the rest of Mandarache Prize books.

The writer, Julio Fajardo, has also been very grateful both with the Youth Council and the promoter group to select his book while "intrigued and intimidated" by the expectation that has raised his book among young people.

The author from Tenerife assured that he was "very excited about the experience" and that he was part of the Mandarache Prize.

MORE MEETINGS

Fajardo will continue his activities in the afternoon visiting the Mandarache Libreta workshop in the ARQUA Museum library at 5:00 p.m.

And at 7:30 pm, he will hold a meeting with university students and reading clubs open to the public at the Cajamurcia Foundation.

On Wednesday 21, he will visit the IES Isaac Peral at 9.00 and at 11.00 he will be at the Fundación Caja Mediterráneo (Main Street), where he will finish his program with a meeting with two hundred students from the secondary schools participating in the project.

Fajardo Herrero will be presented at the meetings by the writer Diego Sánchez Aguilar, professor of the IES Las Salinas del Mar Menor and member of the promoter group of the Mandarache Prize.

'Ordinary Assembly' has been defined by many as 'the novel of the crisis';

the novel that has best described the years of financial crisis in Spain.

However, the panorama offered by the work emerges from the intimate, the lives of three pairs of characters whose stories draw an x-ray of what is happening to us as a society.
