Citizens asked to review the security conditions of all schools in Cartagena (20/02/2018)

- The lack of an emergency exit on the second floor of this center has pushed Citizens to investigate the safety conditions of the rest of the centers

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has transferred to its Group in the Regional Assembly the multiple deficiencies in the public school Santa Maria del Buen Aire of La Puebla, where about 150 students of Infant and Primary attend the center to the center in "unworthy" conditions "

"We understand that in this case there has been a lack of functions by the Ministry of Education but also by the City of Cartagena, which is who has the powers of conservation, maintenance and monitoring of buildings for public centers of second cycle of Infant Education, Primary Education and Special Education ", explained the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

On the occasion of the above, Manuel Padín asked the City Council to include items in the upcoming municipal budgets to solve these deficiencies in the school of La Puebla that are municipal competition, and ensures that "when they send us the draft of the 2018 accounts, We will be very attentive to the economic endowment that is going to be allocated to our public schools, and if we see it necessary and viable, we will ask for a significant increase according to the needs that each center presents. "

The orange training spokesman explained that his group will soon visit these facilities to make an inventory of the problems that the center has and define the action plan that is required at the municipal level and regional level, "but consider that the priority right now is to solve security problems, as published yesterday the newspaper La Verdad, the second floor of this building has no emergency exit and violates the regulations on occupational hazards, which raises a legitimate question: "What other schools violate the regulations on security? "asks Manuel Padín.

In this sense, the Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has requested that the City Council review the safety conditions of all the institutes, schools and kindergartens of the municipality and draw up a list of non-compliances to be sent to the Autonomous Community with the objective of free the necessary investment to solve them.

"We believe that the Colegio de La Puebla is not an isolated case, there are other centers that do not comply with the regulations on safety, that have bars on the windows that can not be opened from the inside, that do not have a water intake nearby for the cases of fire, which have not signaled properly the exits of emergencies, or where the fire extinguishers have not been reviewed in years, "the orange spokesman has said that" the City Council should review all these assumptions and ask for help from the Community in the case that this work exceeds its acting capacity ".

To conclude, Cs Cartagena has also proposed to its Group in the Assembly, that it consider requiring the Community to supervise the state and compliance with safety regulations in all educational centers of the Region of Murcia and establish a multi-year investment plan to adapt it to the requirements that must be met.
