Cs demands the start-up of the table to negotiate the purchase of the San Antón Prison with its current owner (19/01/2018)

- The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena today received members of the Platform The prison is not sold, which has begun a round of meetings with all municipal groups in the City to move their demands and proposals in relation to the future of the San Antón prison

Cartagena, Friday, January 19-.

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has received members of the Platform today The prison is not sold, which has started a round of meetings with all municipal groups in the City to move their demands and proposals regarding the future of the prison of San Antón.

During the meeting, the Platform has reported that it considers necessary that the Government of Cartagena be required to execute the plenary agreement, promoted by CTSSP-Podemos and unanimously supported, to create a work table or specific commission where it is studied and negotiate the acquisition by the City Council of the Cartagena Prison located in the neighborhood of San Antón with the aim of converting the facilities into a socio-cultural space.

The table, according to the text of the motion, must be composed of the municipal government, all political groups, the La Cárcel platform not sold and the current owner of the prison or people on their behalf.

"I understand that the delay in convening that table is due only to the problems and the government crisis that has led to the breakdown of the coalition," said Manuel Padín, who believes that "in principle, I do not think there is any impediment to it was convoked since it was supported with the votes of all the formations ".

In order to mobilize the government team, the orange training spokesman announced that his group will present at the next regular plenary session a question to know when this negotiation table will be convened.

On the other hand, Manuel Padín recalled that in the month of February, the City Council undertook to register an application to inventory and catalog the San Antón Prison and to envisage the modification of the urban planning that contemplated the socio-community use of the facilities.

In addition, the Heritage service of the City Council had to make a historical report of said prison, and the Urbanism service, an architectural report, so that these are attached to the inventory and cataloging request.

On the other hand, the agreement urged the Government not to authorize or grant any demolition license, works or declaration of ruin without mandatory reports, and that any action be communicated to all municipal groups in case any of these actions is requested by part of the owner.

Citizens will also ask about this issue at the next regular session.

The spokesman of Cs Cartagena recalled that his group was the only party that before the auction of the property was interested in the ordinary plenary session for the acquisition and use of the prison for the enjoyment and socio-cultural dynamization of the residents of San Antón, and Cartagena, "unfortunately the Government of MC and PSOE, turned a deaf ear to our warnings and missed the opportunity."

Regarding the current situation, the orange training spokesman has assured that the prison "has an owner who has made a legitimate investment to acquire this property and is in his perfect right to dispose of it, which does not prevent the City Council keep open communication channels to deal with or negotiate the transfer of spaces for socio-cultural use, and for the benefit of the residents of San Antón. "

"We are still waiting for the MC spokesman, José López, to explain why he did not want to buy the prison when he could," said Manuel Padín, who also recalled that the acquisition of the prison "was one of the star promises during the 2015 campaign of the current mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón ".
