Calblanque will live this Wednesday a day of reforestation (05/12/2017)

This Wednesday, December 6, a day of reforestation with native species will take place in the Natural Park of Calblanque.

The works will begin at 10:00 am in the Casanova Nursery, located on the Vía Rápida a La Manga, from where about 100 participants will go to the place where the specimens will be planted.

The LIFE + project 'Conservation of Habitat 9570 *, Forests of Tetraclinis articulata in the European Continent' (LIFE + 13nat / en / 000436), in which this initiative is framed, has as main objective to preserve, improve and increase the surface of the habitat of the cypress of Cartagena (Tetraclinis articulata) in our territory, since it is a unique forest within the European continent that only appears naturally in some forest areas of our Region.

It is a project promoted by the General Directorate of Natural Environment of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, which includes the University of Murcia, the Sierra Minera Foundation, the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE) and the City of Cartagena itself through the Department of Rural Development and Litoral, which directs Obdulia Gómez.

The project will be developed until 2018.

The City Council of Cartagena, the Sierra Minera Foundation and the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE) have developed over the years an environmental education program with various information and dissemination actions for training and awareness of the different sectors of population.

In this framework, this Wednesday will continue the work for the creation of a forest of Tetraclinis articulata in the Regional Park of Calblanque.

The call made by ANSE and SUPERSANO supermarkets has the support of other associations such as Asociación Calblanque, ARBA-Cartagena and La Ecocultural de Los Alcázares.

The participation of around 100 people is expected (the squares are already exhausted) and the planting of more than half a thousand specimens of different habitat-forming species 9570 * Forests of Tetraclinis articulata, such as Tetraclinis itself accompanied by artos (Maytenus senegalensis), cornicales (Periploca angustifolia), mastic (Pistacea lentiscus), etc.

The objective is to establish a new forest of four hectares inside the Regional Park on old farmland that has been possible thanks to the purchase of the farm by SUPERSANO Supermarkets and the establishment of a Custody of the Territory agreement.

The plantation has received financial support from Gas Natural Fenosa.
