Andujar gets the Ironman absolute championship in Copenhagen (21/08/2017)

Pedro José Andújar Bastida, from Trirunner de Pozo Estrecho, won yesterday in Copenhagen the absolute championship of the Ironman.

Andujar, who has a degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and works as a sports activities monitor of the Council of Sports of the City of Cartagena, achieved the win with a time of 8 hours, 33 minutes and 25 seconds.

The Ironman is considered the world championship of this modality and it is not allowed to professional triathletes or have cash prizes.

2,620 athletes participated in the event in the Danish capital.

Andújar swam in a time of 53 minutes and 49 seconds, getting the eighteenth place.

Then, in cycling, he moved to ninth position with a 4: 34: 56 part, and then, in the foot race, to complete the marathon in 2h.59: 09, thus becoming the great champion of the trophy ahead of the Danish Peter Bloch, who finished 1 minute 24 seconds apart.

Third was another Danish, Lars Dyrholm, at 6:19.

Both the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, congratulated the athlete for this success through their twitter accounts.
