A thousand people participate in the ConVive in the Barrio 2017 (03/04/2017)

The residents of the district of Casco Histórico and Sector Station celebrated on Sunday April 2 a community day in which nearly 1,000 people participated in various recreational activities.

The event, organized by the City Council of Cartagena, the Cepaim Foundation and the 'La Caixa' Obra Social, is part of the Intercultural Community Intervention Project (ICI), which aims to strengthen coexistence, ensure social cohesion and Cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity of each neighborhood.

This is the third edition of 'ConVive en el Barrio', an initiative that counts each year with a greater involvement in the preparation and planning of activities by the neighbors of these neighborhoods.

The attendees were able to participate in a graffiti workshop, zumba classes, various children's games, floral workshop, large mural of expressions, fusion workshop of Hip-hop Flamenco or Pasapalabra Cartagenero.

The Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, opened the activity and toured the different workshops, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, Councilor for Transparency and Good Governance Juan Pedro Torralba Villalba, Councilor for Equality, David Martinez, representatives of The municipal groups Pilar Marcos and Antonio Calderón, the director of the Cepaim Foundation, Pablo Jaquero, as well as representatives of other collaborating entities such as the Association of Neighborhoods Sector Station, La Huertecica Collective, Sacred Heart of Jesus College, SODICAR and Rascasa Association between Others.

Castejón wanted to emphasize the importance of the participation of the neighbors, "real protagonists" of this meeting.

"One of the objectives [of the ICI project] is to facilitate the participation and involvement in the active life of our neighborhoods and, here you are, demonstrating that we have succeeded," added Castejón, who pointed out that these are the first steps of a long road To build a better future.

The ICI Project, born of the need to face a new reality that is a consequence of the migratory movements of our society, and which form increasingly diverse cities, is being shaped as a fundamental axis of social action in the new multicultural context.

The objectives of the ICI Project are to improve living conditions in the neighborhood, to empower local actors to face the challenges of coexistence autonomously, and to prevent situations of conflict.

Also, under this framework, the Open Summer School will also be programmed, which will begin at the end of June this year and was well received in its previous edition.
