Social Services launches an Electronic Administration Advisory Service for the Elderly (01/10/2020)

| The Cartagena City Council and the Federation of the Elderly have signed a collaboration agreement this Thursday, October 1 in order to facilitate the use of new technologies | The City Council of Cartagena has signed a collaboration agreement with the Federation of Associations and Centers for the Elderly of Cartagena and the Region this Thursday, October 1, International Day of the Elderly, to create an Advice and Approach Service of Electronic Administration to Older People to meet the needs of this group."We are going to continue working to give visibility to an increasingly numerous group, which is made up of men and women who have contributed in a commendable way to the development and progress of our municipality", as explained by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón , at the signing of the agreement that took place in the City Hall.The first mayor stressed that "from the City of Cartagena we are going to continue designing programs to prevent loneliness, to fight for the well-being of each one of you, and especially the most vulnerable." For this reason, the Department of Social Services has created this Advisory Service and Approach of the Electronic Administration to the Elderly.

In this sense, Castejón explained that "the approach to new technologies, at a time when it is not recommended to leave home sometimes, will be doubly useful and an effective tool that allows them to remain connected with the whole world" .The vice mayor and head of the Department of Social Welfare, Noelia Arroyo, wanted to thank that "in these moments in which they ask us for distance from our elders, the effort that the Department and in general the entire City Council are making, to shorten those distances with programs focused on the management of new technologies by the elderly ". INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE ELDERLYIn addition, on the occasion of the International Day of the Elderly, this Thursday an "intergenerational video" was presented at the City Hall of Cartagena that begins with the recordings of several of the centenarians of Cartagena and ends with words of gratitude from young people who collaborate in the tele-accompaniment program launched by the City Council during the confinement to pay tribute to the elders of the municipality.On the other hand, the Cartagena sculptor, Juan José Quirós, has made a bust in commemoration of the elderly, which will be placed in the Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena. "What better day than on the International Day of the Elderly to record our gratitude and recognition to the elderly, and we wanted to do it through a tribute bust, the work of the sculptor Juan José Quirós, which we are going to place in a exceptional place of the Department of Social Services ", explained the first mayor.For her part, the president of the Cartagena Elderly Club Federation, María Beteta, wanted to show her gratitude to the Cartagena City Council "for the important work that has been carried out for the benefit of the elderly.""For being there informing us at all times so that we do not feel alone or isolated, and for having started projects aimed at the people who need it most: with phone calls to the elderly alone, with the purchase of food and medicines, the agreement with pharmacies to detect older people who needed help, etc.

", concluded the president of the Federation.The commemorative act for the International Day of the Elderly was also attended by the delegate councilor of the Social Services Area, Mercedes García, those responsible for the municipal groups and members of the municipal corporation, the Cartagena sculptor, Juan José Quirós, as well as representatives of the Federation of Associations and Centers for the Elderly of Cartagena and Comarca.
