The Local Police of Cartagena participates in a traffic campaign to control distractions at the wheel (11/09/2020)

| The controls will be carried out in different areas of the municipality throughout the week, from Monday, September 14 to September 20 | The Local Police of Cartagena and the General Directorate of Traffic will carry out a special campaign to control distractions of drivers during traffic with the aim of reducing traffic accidents and achieving greater citizen awareness. The controls will be carried out in different areas of the municipality of Cartagena throughout the week, from Monday, September 14 to Sunday, September 20.During the week, Local Police officers will check that drivers drive without using a mobile phone, if they use headphones or use the GPS, among other behaviors that can distract from driving.

"Dialing a mobile phone number, answering a phone call, reading or answering a Whast-App, lighting a cigarette, adjusting the radio or CD player while driving, involves taking your eyes off the road for a while, period in which the vehicle circulates without control and circumstances may arise that cause a serious accident ", according to the argument of this new campaign launched by the Ministry of the Interior. The campaign is aimed mainly at drivers, since for example, after a minute and a half of talking on the mobile, even with hands-free, 40% of the signals are no longer perceived.

It is also important to reach out to other groups such as pedestrians, as it is common to observe reckless behavior such as the use of a mobile phone that causes distraction and increases the risk of being hit.
