The Cartagena Local Police ends the special traffic campaign to monitor speed with 256 complaints (15/07/2020)

| From July 6 to 12, officers carried out controls on more than 13,000 vehicles in different parts of the city, especially in neighborhoods and councils | The Local Police of Cartagena has completed the campaign to monitor and control vehicle speed limits, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic, carried out from July 6 to 12.During the campaign, the police force personnel carried out a total of 13,002 speed controls on vehicles that passed through urban roads, with a total of 256 complaints filed for speeding, with 55 reported vehicles being notified.

It was not necessary to apply article 379 of the Penal Code in any of the controls carried out.During the last day of the campaign, on July 12, it was the day with the most complaints made with 57 fines, coinciding with the day when more controls were carried out with 2,236 tests.On July 10, 1,364 tests were carried out with a total of 10 complaints, being the day with the lowest incidents recorded throughout the campaign to monitor and control speed limits in vehicles.The Road Safety Law and the General Traffic Regulation set the regulations applicable to generic and specific speed limits, overtaking speed and distances between vehicles.

Failure to comply with these rules is classified as a serious or very serious infraction, punished with fines of 100 to 600 euros.Article 379 of the Penal Code, establishes that “whoever drives a motor vehicle or moped at a speed greater than sixty kilometers per hour on urban roads or eighty kilometers per hour on interurban roads to that legally permitted, will be punished with the penalty imprisonment for three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months and work for the benefit of the community from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one and up to four years ”.
