The Government Board approves the works to eliminate the septic tanks in the Casas del Pino de El Plan (26/06/2020)

| A new sanitation network will also be provided to the Mayor de Canteras street, both of which will be charged to the surplus water service | The Local Government Board of the Cartagena City Council, chaired by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has given the green light this Friday to two works worth more than 240,000 euros, to be undertaken in neighborhoods of the municipality with a surplus from the Water.Specifically, works are going to be undertaken to install a sanitation network in the Casas del Pino, in the El Plan deputation.

Casas del Pino does not have a wastewater network, which forces residents to deposit the wastewater in septic tanks.

"The Government team considers it a priority to carry out this work and eliminate the septic tanks in the Casas del Pino for hygienic, sanitary and environmental reasons; it is a historical demand of the neighbors that we want to resolve as soon as possible ”, remarked the mayor. The works, for an amount of 107,929.76 euros, have a term of execution, after the stakeout signature, of one month.

Thus, the works will provide a sanitation network that will serve Casas del Pino, allowing the management and evacuation of wastewater, which will prevent possible spills, leaks of sewage and bad odors in the area.On the other hand, works have been approved in the sanitation network of the Mayor de Canteras street, specifically, in the section between Cadalso and Tarancón streets.“In these streets, the existing infrastructures present deficiencies due to their deterioration over the years and their low capacity; it is a unitary sanitation network in which overflows occur when we experience episodes of rain, as well as breakdowns ”, explained Ana Belén Castejón.For this reason, the works approved this Friday will allow the sanitation network to be replaced in this section, installing a larger diameter pipeline and replacing the existing sanitation connections.

In addition, the supply service will be restored as it is a fiber cement network, which is to be replaced by another of ductile iron, which will go under the pavement.

The work, once the installation is completed, will include the renovation of sidewalks and asphalt in this section. The works, for which the amount of 132,192.60 euros will be invested, will have a term of execution from the reconsideration signature of two months.“Our intention is to be able to invest the surplus of the water service in works that improve the daily life of the people of Cartagena and with these two works we respond to their needs; specifically, we must not forget that in Casas del Pino the elimination of septic tanks through a sewage network was a request that was highly demanded by the neighbors, ”said the mayor. These are not the first works to be approved this year out of the water surplus in Cartagena.

Two weeks ago, the Local Government Board already gave the green light to two works on Saura and Subida de San Diego streets, in Cartagena, which are framed within the Comprehensive Plan for the Recovery of the Historic Center for the year 2020, and for which almost 630,000 euros will be invested. In total, the first four works that are approved by the Governing Board from the surplus of the water service this 2020 already exceed 850,000 euros.
