| She has spent the last eleven months at the Restoration Center of the Region of Murcia between repair, cleaning and reconstruction works | The Virgen de la Caridad is already in Cartagena after spending the last eleven months in the Restoration Center of the Region of Murcia between repair work by the Autonomous Community.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the commitment that the patron saint of Cartagena was in her basilica on Friday of Dolores could not be fulfilled and, therefore, it was the first time that in nearly 300 years the Virgin of the Caridad was not at home on that appointed date. The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has regretted not being able to celebrate the great day of the Virgin, "we are waiting to be able to do a beautiful, noble act that allows us to symbolize the delivery of the ounce of gold that is not could do in his day, "he announced.

At the moment, "we welcome and welcome it with pride and thanks to all the people who have contributed to its restoration."The works have consisted of cleaning, recovering the polychromy and rebuilding the supports.

"One of the most complex tasks has been the recovery of tears, one by one," said the President of the Regional Government, Fernando López Miras, who has also ensured that the result is magnificent thanks to careful work carried out by excellent professionals.

"For his part, the Bishop of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, recalled the importance of this image and "the feelings of the people of Cartagena when they learned that in this time of pandemic this beloved image was not here." In addition, he wanted to commemorate the 149 deceased in this region as a result of the virus, "I hope the count ends here, there are many stories, many cases of pain and suffering that we have been through." The Elder Brother of the Holy and Royal Charity Hospital, José Vera Sánchez, recalled the first exit from the basilica made by the Virgen de la Caridad, "in 1993 when he moved to Murcia to Veronica's workshop to be repaired." In the act, carried out in the Chapel of San José, since when the basilica was under construction, it had to be temporarily located in this place and not on its old altar, the President of the Regional Government, Fernando López Miras, the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the deputy mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, and the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, as well as other members of the municipal corporation, the President of the Port Authority, Yolanda Muñoz, the Bishop of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Plans, and the Elder Brother of the Holy and Royal Charity Hospital, José Vera Sánchez.
