The Mayor asks President López Miras to open all the services and facilities of the Santa María del Rosell Hospital (27/03/2020)

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has requested, on Friday morning, the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, to activate all the services and facilities of the Santa María del Rosell Hospital so that these health units are fully operational to cope with the health crisis caused by the coronavirus.

With this measure, the mayor, who has met with the president and with the mayors of the Region through videoconference, wants to avoid the collapse of other health facilities such as the Santa Lucía hospital, given the increase in infected people that has been produced in the last days.

“There are dependencies of Rosell that are still closed and that can offer a fundamental service in the situation we are experiencing.

So I have asked the President to get the hospital up and running as quickly as possible.

We want to get ahead of the increase in infections to avoid that Saint Lucia is collapsed, "stressed the mayor.

In this same sense, Ana Belén Castejón has offered the regional government municipal offices in case it is necessary to use them for health purposes.

“We have put all the necessary municipal facilities at the Health Service.

Only together can we beat the coronavirus and that is something that we are all very clear about, â€said the first mayor.

In this same sense, he has reiterated the need for military facilities in Cartagena that are currently in disuse, such as the Naval Hospital or the dependencies of the School of Marine Infantry, to be made available to the City Council and the Community.

UNLOCKING THE HOSPITALITY

He has also asked about the situation of the Hospitality of Santa Teresa, to which the regional vice president, Isabel Franco, has responded that work is already underway to move homeless people to these facilities, and has stressed the great work of the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, who has made a decisive contribution to ensuring that these facilities can be used without restrictions.

Lastly, the mayor has expressed her concern about the state of the elderly who are in the residences of Cartagena and has asked the ministries of Social Policy and Health to speed up their actions.

"We cannot allow contagion to increase and for that we need to act quickly," said Castejón.

The mayor recalled that the first real problem of infection in Cartagena occurred after the arrival of tourists and acted quickly decreeing confinement.

"Now we are experiencing the second peak with nursing homes and I ask for the same speed in responding to it," he said.

The mayor has concluded by indicating that the City Council will continue working as it has been up to now, promoting prevention and disinfection, not only with municipal actions but also through various campaigns.
