CARM will finance the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism of Cartagena 2020-2025 (06/03/2020)

The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia will finance the preparation of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism of Cartagena 2020-2025, whose first working table was held on Friday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports, the Cartagena Forum building .

This meeting marks the beginning of a participatory process in which dialogue will be given to the different agents involved in the sector.

In the meeting prior to the meeting, the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, explained that "the execution of the Strategic Plan is a demand of the tourism sector and an opportunity for all actors, businessmen, administrations, institutions, we can join forces towards a common goal ".

The vice mayor said that "the plan will serve to indicate the objectives of tourism in Cartagena and plan the actions of administrations and companies in the sector to achieve them."

In addition, he pointed out that "our objective is to work for approximately six months in the development of the plan with the help of experts and with the participation of all the sectors involved.

In addition, Arroyo detailed the three key objectives of the plan.

First, to design the new products, to diversify the products within the commitment that Cartagena can make as the capital of tourism in the Region of Murcia.

Secondly, make an effective tourist promotion and finally, look for publics that are profitable, that generate wealth in Cartagena.

For its part, the Minister of Tourism, Cristina Sánchez, explained that this meeting will allow to continue promoting and working for tourism.

Next, the counselor detailed that in the municipality of Cartagena the highest number of hotel accommodations and establishments has been registered in 2019, which represents 11.7%, that is, the accommodations in Cartagena grew in 2019. In addition, tourists who chose Cartagena as their destination generated almost one million three hundred thousand overnight stays in Cartagena, 2.4% more than in 2018. On the other hand, in "extra-hotel" accommodation (campsites ...), according to the General Statistics Institute, in January Cartagena was the second place in the country in overnight stays and in terms of cruises in 2019 there were more than 250,000 cruise passengers in Cartegena, which represented 10% more than in 2018.

"The work we are doing is backed by this information and these data are reflecting economic growth, development and progress."

Finally, the counselor stressed that it is a sustainable plan and that citizen participation is essential.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Commerce, Health and Consumer Affairs, Manuel Padín, and the Tourism Councilor Cristina Pérez.
