In the presentation of the event, which took place this Wednesday, February 26 at the City Hall, the vice mayor and councilor of the Sports Area, Noelia Arroyo, explained that the success of the test not only lies in the route he takes for the Historic center, but for the quality with which it is celebrated year after year.
The vice mayor highlighted the great work developed by the municipal services, the Department of Sports, the municipal brigades and the security of the event, which are essential to carry out this type of activities.
"We must boast the great work of the athletic clubs of Cartagena and the illusion with which they always carry out this test," said the vice mayor.
Noelia Arroyo also wanted to highlight that Cartagena is a benchmark in outdoor sporting events, “it is the big bet from the City of Cartagena, thanking the work of the clubs, and this serves to seasonally adjust tourism and to value the Cartagena brand, from the point of view of cultural heritage. ”
For his part, the president of the Mandarache Triathlon Club of Cartagena, Javier Nieto, pointed out that the Media Marathon "ceases to be just a sporting event, once again being a cultural event, to show a city."
The president explained that this year they have focused on the career in Cartagena as a tourist city, so that the public not only comes to a sporting activity, but that they know the city firsthand in a gastronomic and cultural experience.
To date there are a total of 1310 registered runners, hoping to reach 1,400 runners, a figure very similar to the previous year.
Having runners not only from the Region, also from outside Spain with participants from France.
The president stressed that they have managed to overcome one of the objectives of this competition, which has been to increase the number of participation in the women's category, with just over 300 runners.
In addition, Javier Nieto pointed out that one of the measures taken from the City Council has been to make a special design for the shirt of the female category and as for the trophies a different trophy has also been made for each male and another for the female.
In terms of organization and safety, the competition will have 350 fences and 400 cones distributed along the route.
It is a completely flat circuit which facilitates your comfort and safety.
The Cartagena Runtritn Club brings about 20 volunteers throughout the race, with a total of more than 100 volunteers working in the streets of Cartagena to guarantee this great sport party, and with around 40 police, Civil Protection and medical services.
The Marathn media has the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena and many companies and entities, especially the support that year after year provides the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) as sponsor of the test and the competition shirt.
How new this year, Javier Nieto explained that they will have the Renacer troupe that will bring 120 people to cheer the day, from the start and while the runners reach the finish line.
They have also prepared a mobile disc on the running track with a DJ, shows and music for attendees.
At the end everyone can enjoy a giant paella with a very cheap price of 1.50 euros.
The presentation was also attended by the Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, and Eduardo Armada, coordinator of the event.
