Parks and Gardens plant about 200 trees in the main streets of the municipality (13/02/2020)

The Service of Parks and Gardens continues advancing in the removal of stumps and replacement of trees in the main streets of the municipality.

Specifically, at the beginning of March, about 200 new trees will have been planted in the city center, Santa Lucia, Los Barreros, Los Dolores, San Ginés Neighborhood, El Ensanche or Ciudad Jardín.

In this regard, the area councilor, Juan Pedro Torralba, explained today, Thursday, February 13, that “the replacement of trees in the municipality of Cartagena is a personal concern that has lasted for too long.

For the first time in many years there is a change that can be seen in our streets, since since the fall of 2018 the detoconiation and the replacement of trees on the main roads of our municipality are being carried out â€.

Specifically, he affirmed that it is not about specific plantation campaigns, but that “it is another activity within the service of conservation of gardens and road trees, depending on the availability of means and as part of the obligations of the contracted maintenance.

We do not intend to stop replacing damaged trees, but neither can we afford to make large plantations that can not be properly treated later, â€he said.

In this way, the homogeneity in the alignment is sought and replaced with Mediterranean woodland or adapted to the environmental conditions of the municipality of Cartagena.

Thus, in some places they are being replaced by bushes in the form of a cup that replace ficus that were planted not many years ago in small alcorques on the edge of the sidewalks and surrounded by facilities, which pose obstacles to traffic and were condemned for not Have growth space.

The lack of space has been one of the conditions that have ended up with numerous trees in the streets of Cartagena but not the only one, since there are blows due to traffic accidents, decrepitude due to the passage of time, the inclement weather, conditions, pests and vandalism

“Citizens must take care of trees too and, of course, denounce incivious actions.

It is important that our gardeners water, but also what the neighbors do not bark their branches or that the bars do not empty the bottles in the alcorque â€, concluded Juan Pedro Torralba.
