The PSOE denounces that the lack of planning by the regional government is causing delays in the appointments of the Cartagena Health Centers and collapse in hospitals (09/01/2020)

The deputies of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Carmina Fernández and José Antonio Peñalver have denounced the lack of planning and means by the Regional Government and the Ministry of Health in Cartagena and Area II of Health, which is causing a lot of delay in the appointments of the health centers and collapse in hospitals.

They have indicated that the flu has not yet reached its peak, and the system has already been blocked in health areas such as Cartagena and Comarca, where the situation is very worrying and precarious.

"If a user requests an appointment at the health center and they give him for a week, as it is happening, he goes to the emergency room, which is causing hospitals to collapse, as every year by these dates."

"Once again it is shown that the healthcare model of Murcia needs a change that is going to reinforce more Primary Care, which has not yet recovered from the cuts suffered during the crisis," they said.

Socialist deputies have recalled that the Murcia Health Service (SMS) has published two plans to boost Primary Care in the last five years, but have not demonstrated an adequate response, and that the Medical Union has denounced that the contingency plan for this year's flu epidemic.

In addition, they have indicated that a large part of the patients are elderly or chronically decompensated people who could be treated at home, and not all in hospitals, which may even add risk to the complications of these vulnerable patients.

The PSRM proposes to strengthen health centers with more medical and nursing staff so that they can take care of patients in less than 48 hours, open health centers in the afternoon and pay attention at home.

Finally, Carmina Fernández and José Antonio Peñalver have stressed that the Government of Spain has proposed a Strategic Plan for Primary and Community Care with 100 measures in the short, medium and long term, to consolidate a health model that aims to intervene in the community, at home and in primary care, in order to need less from hospitals.
