The Roman Theater Foundation of Cartagena prepares the drafting of the project of excavation of the Portico financed by the CARM (11/12/2019)

The Foundation of the Roman Theater of Cartagena has decided to commission the drafting of the excavation project of the Portico of the monument, which will be financed by the Autonomous Community.

The works will allow to know in depth the state of the arcaded gardens that occupied half of the total surface of the building and design their recovery, which will be addressed in several phases.

This is one of the topics that have been addressed in the last meeting of 2019 of the Board of Trustees of the Roman Theater Foundation of Cartagena, where the actions carried out during the year have been summarized and objectives have been set for 2020. At the meeting, chaired by the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, has also given its approval to the renewal of the sponsorship of the Roman Theater of Cartagena with the Football Club Cartagena, which has been carried out since the previous legislature, as announced the vice mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo.

The director of the Roman Theater Museum of Cartagena, Elena Ruiz Valderas, has detailed the steps that will be followed for the first phase of the expansion of the Portico of the Roman Theater.

“Once we have the writing of the project, the necessary financing will be seen and articulated.

Luckily, we have some employers who are excited about it. â€

As for time, the director of the Museo Teatro Romano de Cartagena affirms that "in archeology and in the patrimonial recovery time is not the most important thing".

Regarding the budget, Ruiz Valderas has estimated around 300,000 to 400,000 euros the amount allocated to this first phase of the excavation of the Portico of the Roman Theater of Cartagena.

The vice mayor said that the meeting also detailed other aspects, such as the balance of the accounts of 2019. She has also said that the administrations will continue to support “the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the most visited of all Spain â€according to Arroyo.

The president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, has also indicated that the members of the Board of Trustees belonging to the City Council of Cartagena and the Autonomous Community have been renewed.

In addition, he emphasized that the Museo Teatro Romano de Cartagena is "one of the flagships" of the city when it comes to fighting for UNESCO's World Heritage recognition.
