MC: "The local government, about to incur a new irregularity by letting CATAD contract expire without advancing in the new tender" (02/12/2019)

"After amortizing Ana Rama, Manuel Padín has lost all interest in animal welfare."

With this statement, the Councilor of the Municipal Group MC Cartagena, Isabel García, began to announce that her training will ask in the next plenary session the way in which the local government will articulate the management of the Shelter Center for Domestic Animals of Cartagena (CATAD ), after the next expiration in January of the contract that joins the Consistory with the company responsible for it.

Next, García recalled the motion presented by MC during the month of July, taking advantage of the impending expiration of the contract, to claim "the remunicipalisation of CATAD, an issue that was rejected by the Government. Now, we are just over a month for the end of this link and we are at serious risk of falling into law fraud. Who plans to take over the center once the contract expires? Neither legality nor animal welfare seems to be on the agenda, "he argued.

"In no case we were surprised that they refused to remunicipate the service because both the transfugas and the PP and Citizens share the will to outsource it. None of them are concerned about the possible irregularities. In the end, opting for remunicipalisation is to do so by reinvesting the benefits business to increase jobs or provide a better service. In just six months, we know that the concerns of 'La Trinca' are other ", lamented the Cartagena leader.

"In MC we do believe in it. In greater control of the public, improve efficiency and transparency, establish sustainability criteria and optimize resources," continued Isabel García.

In the specific case of CATAD, the mayor has stressed that "a 24-hour service would be guaranteed, with municipal workers, betting on zero sacrifice and active adoption policies."

Subsequently, García said that "as we do not renounce this possibility, we demand that a new tender be carried out for the minimum time established by the Law while continuing to work on remunicipalisation."

Finally, the Councilor of MC has stressed that "we will ask in the plenary session how they intend to solve this problem because, through transparency, we have requested access to the file of the new contract tender and this does not exist. Time is runs out and seem to be heading for a new case of illegality.

Animal welfare ordinance

In another order of things, it is worth remembering that, in past dates, the United Municipal Groups Podemos IU Verdes Equo Cartagena and MC Cartagena presented a joint motion, to be debated in the next Plenary session of December 4, in order to proceed, without further procrastination, to the development of the Municipal Animal Welfare Ordinance, taking as a starting point the draft, which is very advanced thanks, in large measure, to the work of the companion of the previous legislature, Teresa Sánchez Caldentey, together with Amanda Perales.
