The City Council expects that Ercros will no longer delay the decontamination of the El Hondón land (18/10/2019)

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, said this morning that the City Council is still working on the speedy recovery of the El Hondón land, especially after the announcement that the Ministry of Environment has declared them contaminated soils, thus obliging Ercros to take care of its cleanliness and recovery.

"We have meetings practically every week to address this issue since the decontamination of these lands is a priority for us," said Castejón, who has highly valued the decision of the Ministry of Environment, since it meets the legal premise that who contamina takes care of the subsequent cleaning.

The resolution of the Ministry of Environment requires the company causing the pollution, Ercros SA, to submit a technical project for cleaning and recovery of these lands in two months.

For approval by the Directorate General for the Environment, the project must be informed favorably by the Nuclear Safety Council and be executed within the deadline set in the project itself.

The City Council bought in the last legislature the lands of the Hondón to end the paralysis of this area of natural growth of the city of Cartagena and guarantee its value.

BALSA DE SAN AGUSTĂŤN, IN EL LLANO

On the other hand, the City Council of Cartagena has received this week the study of the soil and the risk analysis of the San Agustín raft, located in the Llano del Beal, which he commissioned last summer.

This documentation has been sent to the General Directorate of Environment of the Autonomous Community and to the Infrastructure area of the City Council itself to prepare the project appropriate to the results of the study for the restoration of that environment.

The City Council is co-owner of this raft.

"As we have already made clear in our programmatic agreement, our commitment to the protection of the Environment and to the Ecological Transition is absolute and we demonstrate it day by day with our actions," said Castejón.
