Cartagena joins this October 10 to the celebration of World Mental Health Day, whose motto this 2019 is 'Connect with life', emphasizing the visibility of suicide.

This has been one of the issues addressed at the meeting held this morning by the Vice Mayor of Cartagena and Councilor for the area of Social Welfare, Noelia Arroyo and the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garca, with the representatives of TP Cartagena MM - Association of Aid and Research on Personality Disorders of Cartagena, Comarca and Mar Menor-, PICES Mental Health -Association for the Community Integration of Psychic Patients of Cartagena and Comarca-, and AFAL Cartagena -Association of Relatives and Patients with Alzheimer's Disease of Cartagena- .

The vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, said that "from the City Council they will continue to support these associations that with their projects and programs form, accompany, integrate into social life and design the future of patients with mental illness."

According to the World Health Organization, every forty seconds a person commits suicide in the world.

In Spain, the figure is ten people a day.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garca, explained that “the figures are alarming as regards the cases of the first cause of unnatural death nationwide and that affects both young and old, so it is necessary that be prevented. "

After the meeting, the reading of the manifesto took place in the Plaza de Juan XXIII, where the groups have claimed that they speak to the silenced reality of suicide.

The event was attended by the second deputy mayor, Manuel Padn, the Councilor for Social Services and the mayor of the municipal corporation, Aurelia Garca.

One of those in charge of reading the manifesto has remarked that "life deserves to be lived and together we can find the way out in the maze of confusion."

To these words has been added another one in charge of the manifesto that has indicated that “sometimes we will be better or worse because we are full beings, full of affections, also of difficulties, but that we can overcome them if we walk without stress and in company” .

Finally, the different groups have asked that "although life hurts, we never give up, overcome obstacles and observe the beauty of life because we have the keys to happiness."

Therefore, let's connect with our essence, let's connect with our life.
