The public information period for the Progress of the Review of the General Plan of Urban Planning begins (15/04/2019)

From this Monday, April 15, all citizens of Cartagena can check the progress of the revision of the General Urban Plan of the municipality.

A public information period of one month is opened from this day.

Interested persons may consult this first non-binding document of the process in the Administrative Building of San Miguel Street, on the website www.plangeneralcartagenaparticipacionciudadana.es and in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Murcia.

Suggestions may be submitted in the General Register of the City Council until May 16.

The document, which initiates the process for the implementation of the new urban plan of Cartagena, includes the proposals made in the workshops open to citizens, neighborhood and social representatives and municipal technicians that have been held in recent months.

Interviews have also been conducted with experts and municipal groups.

This progress of the revision of the General Urban Plan of Cartagena includes actions in four areas: the north, west, center and east.

In the northern area, the proposal to improve communications with Torre Pacheco stands out.

In the western area, the intention is to regulate rural areas in order to promote rural tourism in a sustainable manner.

In the downtown area, this first document aims to consolidate a sustainable development of the city that is compatible with the Logistics Action Zone of Los Camachos, the arrival of the AVE to Cartagena and the Mediterranean corridor.

For the eastern area, it is proposed to protect the Mar Menor with better tourism and agricultural development.

Those responsible for the progress of the revision of the General Urban Plan of the municipality consider that the current model of this area in the salt lake "is exhausted".

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has assured that this process of citizen participation is "a pioneer in the Region.

We have accommodated all those who have wanted to participate, more than 300 participants physically or through digital platforms.

In short, it is giving participation so that people can decide on a very important planning tool, because it is to design and approve among all of us how we want the municipality to grow in the next 25 years ".

Once the public information deadline of the initial proposal of the General Urban Plan of Cartagena on May 16 has expired, the City Council will collect the suggestions that have been submitted to prepare the new PGOU.

Enrique Nicolás, the representative of INCOTEC Consultores, participant in the development of the revision of the municipal urban plan, clarifies that "the progress he makes is to propose, diagnose and initiate the process.

It is not a document approved by the City Council, but initiates the process.

What will be approved at the time by the City Council will be the General Plan ".

This progress in the revision of Cartagena's General Plan for Urban Planning, which is not binding, has alternatives linked to sustainable and environmentally responsible development and to increase the availability of land, "always with the principles of maintaining protected lands, natural values and cultural, giving a cohesive form to the territory "says the expert Enrique Nicolás.

The General Plan will regulate the urban development of the municipality of Cartagena.

Enrique Nicolás trusts that it can be definitively approved "before the end of the term that begins in the next few months."

Nicolás affirms that the procedures to elaborate this document are slow "because they are very participative, very guaranteeing and depend on other administrations".

The progress of the revision of the General Plan of Urban Planning of Cartagena aims to address urban and environmental regeneration, the design of inclusive environments and a response to climate change.
