The figure of the woman in the body of the Local Police has been the central axis of the acts celebrated to commemorate the day of San Leandro, Patron of the Local Police, which took place this Tuesday, November 13.

The activities have begun with a mass in the Castrense Church of Santo Domingo chaired by the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and the Councilor for Citizen Security, Manuel Mora, who have been accompanied by the Deputy Inspector of the Local Police, Eusebio Serna and the mayor of the Public Services area, Juan Pedro Torralba.

On this occasion, the activities have revolved around the figure of women in the Local Police force because this year, for the first time, an agent in the municipality retires.

The member of the staff Úrsula Sánchez is one of the first women to accede to the Local Police of Cartagena in the 80s. The municipality was the first in the region to incorporate women into its ranks, at a time when this profession was reserved only for men.

In addition, Cartagena was also a pioneer in this issue at the national level, only behind Madrid and Córdoba.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, said that this year "we celebrated the Day of the Patron of the Local Police with the goal and the great challenge of continuing to expand the workforce", as the mayor recalled, "when When we arrived at the government we found that there was an aging workforce that we also had to face in order to replace it. "

For this reason, Castejón has continued, when the unions agree "we will remove the court so that all the aspirants present themselves, in order to have, as soon as possible, many more policemen, more agents in our streets of neighborhoods and villages to continue demonstrating that we have a safe city, that we aspire to make it even more so ".

For her part, Local Police Officer Pilar Artés explained that, taking advantage of this date, the role of women as police agents and their inclusion in a profession traditionally carried out only by men was highlighted.

Finally, the first mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has expressed that she feels "very proud of the team of men and women that make up the Local Police and today is the day to remind them of the good work they do".

Recognition plaques and distinctions have been given to recently retired agents Úrsula Sánchez, Rafael Paredes, Ceferino García, Santiago Pérez, Rafael Martínez, Antonio Martínez, Antonio Martínez, José Ángel Iñíguez, José Luis Sánchez, Salvador Cánovas, Emilio Requena and Juan Francisco López.
