Citizens get to extend the deadline for the abolition of postal service in the special environments of Cartagena (12/10/2018)

- "This is the first phase of the Cs motion presented at the last regular session," now the City Council has to study and determine the location of the mailboxes concentrated in these special environments, implement a system for the registration of affected neighbors and acquire the pluridomiciliados mailboxes and then collect them as appropriate ", explained the spokesman of Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín

The Government of Cartagena has begun to implement the plenary agreement promoted by Ciudadanos at the last ordinary plenary session in which it requested its mediation before the controversy over the suppression of the postal service in the so-called special environments of the municipality.

The president of the Neighborhood Board of Isla Plana and La Azohía;

María Dolores Díaz, has assured that yesterday she received the official confirmation from the City Council that the distribution of ordinary mail is extended until November 1, and that this extension of the Correos resolution to suppress postal services in the special environments of Cartagena it extends to the other urbanizations in Cartagena (San Ginés, El Mojon, Estrella de Mar, Roche Alto, Bella Bay, Mar de Cristal, La Chapineta, El Portús, Los Belones Golf Course, Punta Brava, Los Madriles, La Fuensanta, Lesser Islands).

The motion of Cs demanded that an extension be requested to Correos of this resolution in force since October 1, that will be studied and determined the location of the concentrated mailboxes (pluridomiciliados) in these environments, that a system will be implemented for the registry of the affected neighbors and that these mailboxes were acquired (the pluricasilleros) and then collect them accordingly.

In this sense, Cs informs that the Association of Neighbors of La Azohía is making an unofficial registry of addresses affected by the suppression of the service, "but they do not have the means to guarantee that all affected neighbors and their addresses are included (many foreigners ) or are not even aware of this list, require the help of the Consistory and Correos ", says the neighborhood president, María Dolores Díaz.

On the other hand, the spokesman of Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín, promoter of the municipal mediation, hopes that these measures "can be established before it arrives on November 1".

In addition, Citizens has learned that the Neighborhood Board has already received the report of the municipal legal services they had requested to clarify their situation and the possibilities of continuing to receive ordinary mail as it has been up to now.

The report concludes that due to the collaboration of the City Council in the qualification of special environment in these places, "it is difficult to pose any opposition at this time, unless the circumstances that led to such declaration are altered and so documented, in such a way that it is proven that at least two of the requirements established in Article 37 of the Postal Regulation are not met ".

As for financing, the legal report leaves the door open for the Consistory to finance the payment of concentrated mailboxes, "on the understanding that both residents and the City Council are interested in the delivery of ordinary mail from a efficient way. "

According to Manuel Padín, "although it has cost, and mediation arrives at the last minute, we are pleased that the local government has finally been involved in this problem that affects mainly the elderly and does not leave hundreds of neighbors to their fate; of Isla Plana and La Azohía for example, would have been forced to move to the Postal Office of Mazarrón to collect their letters, "said Padín.

The case of Dénia

This problem has affected neighbors and is a matter between them and the postal company, but in many other municipalities, such as the one in Dénia last year, in response to neighborhood complaints, they were offered since they learned of the decision of the CNMC to mediate and organize the installation of the new pluridomiciliary mailboxes.

Dénia City Council opened a communication line to register the affected neighbors and request the mailbox, a municipal study was made to determine the location of the shared mailboxes, based on the requirements established by Correos, and the new mailboxes were acquired pluridomiciliarios to subsequently collect them partially to the neighbors.

"We have not done anything other than reclaim the same Cartagena", explains Manuel Padín.
