Cs regrets that the school playgrounds continue to be underutilized while municipal spaces are missing to offer to the neighbors (17/06/2018)

- The orange training spokesman, Manuel Padín, is aware that the start-up of the "Open Patios" project requires the hiring of surveillance and security measures, "which is why we were prudent and asked to start a pilot test in September, but even so we have managed to get the City Council to work on this. "

In the Plenary session of September 2017, Ciudadanos laid the first stone to make Cartagena the first municipality in the Region of Murcia to open its school playgrounds in a planned manner outside school hours to offer its neighbors a free and safe space where to develop all kinds of sports and leisure activities, "but the crossed arms of this Government have made what could already be a great achievement for Cartagena is, at the moment, just another good idea that continues without being executed," laments the spokesman Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

Faced with the problems faced by the residents of the municipality of Cartagena due to the limited -even nonexistent in some areas- offer of municipal spaces for leisure and events, Citizens proposed to study the implementation of a program of 'open school patios' , starting with a pilot test with two or more centers to evaluate their development.

All the political forces voted in favor of this initiative in the plenary session held in September 2017, but nothing has been done about it since then.

Citizens Cartagena asks the local executive not to forget this agreement that can bring so much benefit to the residents of Cartagena, "it is more than obvious that there are no municipal spaces in the city for sports activities or outdoor neighborhood events, and this happens while the playgrounds of the schools are underutilized outside school hours, during weekends and holiday periods such as the one we are going to start in a few days, "laments Orange spokesman Manuel Padín.

The 'Patios Abiertos' project is an initiative that has already been launched in several Spanish cities such as Barcelona, Albacete or Sagunto, and the result obtained has been very positive.

"There are many studies that show that leisure activities and leisure time help to humanize, acculturate, develop creativity and socialize, and the City Council should also ensure to increase the supply of activities and extend it to all citizens," says the spokesman of the orange formation.

With this project, the patios of Cartagena could also be used extracurricularly by associations, platforms and other neighborhood groups to carry out different activities.

Padín is aware that the implementation of this project requires the reform of some educational infrastructure as well as the contracting of surveillance and security measures, "that is why we were prudent and asked to start with a pilot test, but even so we have achieved that the City council is put to work in this ".

"The Government can also negotiate with the Ministry of Education the adequacy of the courtyards of schools under the umbrella of this plan, and security can be contracted through the employment plans of the Local Development Agency (ADLE)," ways to carry out this project, only political will is needed ", recriminates Manuel Padín.
